PEMBROKE- With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our wonderful, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. God needed another angel in Heaven, so he took her home. She passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the Granite VNA Hospice House on April 30, 2022.
Born in Center Sandwich, Susan was the daughter of the late William and Frances (Gilman) Colby. She was raised and educated in Bow and was a graduate of Laconia High School Class of 1942.
Prior to her retirement in 2000, she was a receptionist at Presidential Oaks in Concord for over 22 years. Prior to that, she was employed as Chief Clerk for Hood Ice Cream for over 13 years and, also proudly served as an Avon Representative for over 50 years.
Actively involved in civil and fraternal affairs, Susan was a member of the Mt. Plausawa Extension Group, a former 4-H Leader since 1954; had been a member of the former Mary Gordon Bartlett Rebekah Lodge #69. She held the offices of Past Noble Grand and District Deputy President. She was also a member of the Rebekah Assembly Ladies Encampment Auxiliary. In 2004, she was awarded the highest honor of the Order, “The Rebekah Meritorious Service Jewel.” She was also the proud recipient of the Boston Post Cane from the Town of Pembroke in 2019.
Susan was predeceased by her husband, Chester Saltmarsh; her son, Warren W. Saltmarsh and his late wife Judy; her daughter, Doris Willette, and her sister, Phyllis Albin.
She is survived by her sister, Abby Cirioni of Bellingham, MA; Son-in-law, Bruce Willette; her four grandchildren, Reagan, Beau, Eli and Adam; her five great grandchildren, Jordan, Damien, Brett, Kianna and Kash as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 21st from 10 to 11 A.M. in the Roan Family Funeral Home – Still Oaks Chapel, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway in Epsom followed by a Memorial Service at 11 A.M. Burial will be 2 P.M. in the Evans Cemetery, Bow. In lieu of flowers, Sue requested donations in her memory may be sent to the Merrimack County 4-H Foundation for Youth, 315 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303; Granite VNA Hospice House, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord, NH 03301 or the Presidential Oaks Endowment Fund, 200 Pleasant St. Concord, NH 03301.
