CHICHESTER- Cecil David White, 90, of Chichester, affectionately known as “Grandpa” and “Bumpa”, passed away on August 30, 2017 after a period of failing health.

            Cecil was born on May 5, 1927 in Long Island, NY, the son of the late Harold and Gladys (Brooker) White.  He was raised and educated in Concord and was a graduate of Concord High School Class of 1945.  He later attended Concord Commercial College and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting in 1949.  He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country as a code operator during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

            Cecil was previously employed by Associated Grocers of NH and later at Banks Chevrolet, where he served as Secretary and Treasurer for 25 years.  He later became a bank officer for Concord National Bank and retired in 1992.  He was well known for the past 22 years as a Walmart Greeter.

            He was a former member of the Millville 4-H Club, serving as its leader for 55 years and Millville Grange as well as the Odd Fellows and Lodge of Elks.  He held many positions in the 4-H, including winning the NH State Alumni Award in 1979 and Treasurer of the Merrimack County 4-H Leader Association for many years.  He was also a member of the 4-H Extension Council and 4-H Foundation. In addition, he was on the board of directors for the Hopkinton State Fair for several terms.

            An active member of the West Congregational Church in Concord, Cecil was a former member of the Board of Trustees and former member of the Men’s Club and WE-CO-ACS.

            In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Desilets and Peggy Bergeron.

            He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Florence L. (Shelley) White; two sons, Gene White and his wife Patricia of Concord and Peter White and his wife Janis of Chichester; two daughters, Pamela White and her husband Jeffrey Dahl of Davenport, FL and Sharon Wescomb and her husband John of Largo, FL; and one sister, Muriel Skipper of Nashville, TN.  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Keith, Chris, Jonathan, Greg, Matt, Garry, Brett, Jordan, Molly, Skye and Nadia and 15 great grandchildren, Victoria, Veronica, Kaytlin, Madeline, Krysta-Lynn, Meredith, Danielle, Cassidy, Zack, Gavin, Kameron, Thomas, Chase, George and Cameron.

            Calling Hours will be held on Friday, September 1st from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M in the Still Oaks Funeral & Memorial Home, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway in Epsom.  His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 2nd at 1 P.M. in the West Congregational Church, 499 N. State St. in Concord.  Burial will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Cecil’s memory may be sent to the Merrimack County 4-H Foundation, 315 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303 or the West Congregational Church, 499 N.
