PARKTON, NC- CSM (ret) Michael J. LaFarr, U.S. Army, 54, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Womack Army Center on March 27, 2017 after a lengthy battle with leukemia.

Born in Lake George, NY, Michael was the son of the late Albert J. and Linda L. (DeGrechie) LaFarr.  He was raised and educated in Lake George and was a graduate of Lake George Jr./Sr. High School Class of 1981.  During his high school career, he was a standout basketball player and member of the National Honor Society.

Following his graduation, Michael enlisted in the United States Army and began a military career that would span for the next 30 years.  He was the proud recipient of several medals reflecting his commendations and defense service.  Michael retired from the United States Army with the rank of Command Sergeant Major in 2009.

Michael was an avid Nascar collector and enjoyed camping but above all, he cherished the time spent with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his nephew, Michael J. Bean, and a sister-in-law Selma Elliott.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Elliott) LaFarr.  He was the loving father to Brittany and Aimee LaFarr of Slatington, PA.  His step-sons Johnny Shaver, and his fiancée Shana Miller, of Pittsfield NH, and Arthur Shaver, of Concord, NH.  He was the brother to Kim Bean and her husband Jimmy of Twin Falls, Idaho.  He was the loving grandfather to Hayley, Tiana, Anthony, Cayden, Olivia, Parker and Raelynn.  Michael is also survived by his beloved dog, Hope. Michael is also survived by his Brother-In-Laws; Michael Elliott of Concord, NH, William Elliott of Deerfield, NH, and David Elliott, of Concord, NH, his sister-in-law’s; Nancy Nolin and her husband Raymond Nolin of Pembroke, NH and Marlene Williams and her husband Jimmy of NC.  Michael is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his ex-wife Lori of Slatington, PA

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, April 11th from 6 to 8 P.M. in the Petit-Roan Funeral Home 167 Main St. in Pembroke.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Christ the King Parish, 72 South Main St. in Concord, on Wednesday, April 12th at 10 A.M.  Burial with full Military Honors will follow at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.  To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit www.petitroan.com
